Project Scope

A complete public-realm transformation.

Trinchero served as sole prime contractor responsible for all civil, structural, and landscape scopes — self-performing all grading, earthwork, wet utilities, and paving in-house.

Underground Drainage

Complete subsurface stormwater system including catch basins, trunk lines, laterals, and connection to city infrastructure. Full trench safety compliance under CAL/OSHA Title 8 §1541.

Structural Planters

Reinforced concrete planter systems designed for vehicle load. West Coast Steel subcontractor fabrication coordinated with Trinchero forming and placement. Structural review per CalGreen.

Pedestrian Plaza Paving

Decorative unit paving, ADA-compliant crosswalks, and smooth surface concrete over 3,500 linear feet. Stakeless GPS grading to 0.01 ft tolerance — no re-grading passes required.

Caltrans Compliance

STBG federal funding required full Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications compliance. Prevailing wage, DVBE outreach goals, and inspector coordination — completed without any compliance violations.

Public Access Coordination

Active commercial corridor. Phased construction sequencing maintained business access throughout. Traffic control plans, pedestrian detour signage, and daily coordination with City of Gilroy Public Works.

Landscape + Site Furnishings

Street tree installation, irrigation system, site furnishings (benches, bollards, bike racks) per City of Gilroy streetscape standards. Punch list resolved within original project close-out window.

Construction Technology

Stakeless GPS grading. No re-passes.

The Gourmet Alley project was graded to finished surface tolerance without a single re-grade pass — using Trimble GPS machine control on our John Deere motor grader.

01
Trimble GPS Machine Control

All earthwork and paving subgrade graded using Trimble GPS machine control integrated with our motor grader and compaction equipment. Design files loaded directly from civil drawings — no stakes, no string lines. This eliminates surveyor re-stake delays and cuts cut/fill re-passes by an average of 40%.

02
Single-Pass Compaction Verification

Nuclear density testing performed in-house immediately after compaction. Pass/fail logged per lift before next layer placed. On Gourmet Alley, subgrade compaction was achieved and verified in a single continuous operation — no stop-and-restart sequences required by the inspector.

"The grading came in laser-straight on the first pass. The inspector didn't have a single correction. That's what GPS machine control looks like when the operator has been using it for years."

Project Delivery

Every phase, on sequence.

Gourmet Alley was delivered in four construction phases over 14 months, maintaining continuous business access and zero stop-work events.

Phase 1 — Mobilization
Underground Utilities + Drainage

Subsurface storm drainage installed first. All trenching compliant with CAL/OSHA Title 8 §1541 shoring requirements. Connection to City trunk line completed ahead of schedule by 3 days.

Phase 2 — Structural
Planter Construction + Base Prep

Reinforced concrete planters formed, poured, and stripped. GPS-guided subgrade compaction performed for all plaza areas. Structural steel coordination with West Coast Steel without any schedule delay.

Phase 3 — Surface
Paving, Concrete + ADA Compliance

Decorative paving placed over completed base. All crosswalks built to ADA transition slope requirements. Smooth surface concrete poured in temperature-controlled morning sessions to ensure uniform hydration.

Phase 4 — Close-Out
Landscape, Furnishings + Punch List

Street trees planted per City arborist spec. Irrigation system installed and tested. All site furnishings installed. Punch list resolved within 14 days of substantial completion. Project closed on time with no claims.
